Babydoo doll Ben

                              Newest Babydoo doll named Ben.

This Babydoo doll was created especially for my Daughters best friend Ben. It was a great experience making him becuase I know and love the child he is made for and I could think of him and how cute he is as i created his doll. Matching hair and eye colors were used and to make this doll extra special Bennie's mom gave me an old pair of his favorite pjs and his old wobby blanket to sew into doll clothes. Now She has a forever memento of her sweet baby boy and her boy has a new friend to love and cuddle up. Now that's what I call a win win :-)

Babydoo Ben was made to order by myself, with his moms careful description in mind and my memories of Bennie. All dolls are 18 inches in height. Choose color of hair, eyes, clothes, hair style, clothing style, doll gender, etc.

-All faces are hand stitched with beautiful cotton and silken threads.

-Dolls are stuffed with hypo allergenic filling.

-Doll bodies are made with one hundred percent cotton fabric hand dyed with teas and coffees.

-Each doll body is double stitched to ensure durability.

-Each doll is soft, cuddly, and ready to share special moments with your child.

Your details and my careful crafting ensure that each doll is a one of a kind creation made just for you or that sweet little one in your life.

Scents, such as lavender, can be added to dolls stuffing to make it extra comforting or special for your child upon request for small additional fee. A Bit about Babydoo, and Me too!

My Name is Jennifer. I am a stay at home mother in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. Some of my fondest memories are of watching my mother and auntie sewing together, making everything you could imagine! They told me stories of my grandmother the seamstress who could whip them up a dress for every occasion. One of the many things they taught me was how to sew beautiful doll the same way that they made them for me.
When my Mother, then my Auntie passed on I inherited something that changed my life....My aunties "baby lock" sewing machine.  After taking the machine in to get cleaned and see if it needed repairs (it was in fine order I was told) i brought it home and stared at it a bit....cried a bit about how I missed the women in my family...and stared a bit more lol. It didn't take long before I started to sew again just like they taught me. Soon I discovered that i too can create beautiful, soft, Waldorf style dolls.
After my Aunties passing i began to collect dolls. I became fascinated with some popular 18 inch brand name dolls. Still love the details of dress, the stories that come with, and the historical characters they have. Enjoy how you can go create a doll to look like your child. Still love the brand and collect the dolls. However, they are expensive and not really dolls I let my two year old drag around the house. I started looking for dolls my daughter could really use. I came across Waldorf or Steiner dolls. After looking at this dolls it hit me immediately...these are the dolls I was taught to make, but my mother and auntie never called them by that name.
Once I began to hand sew my first doll I realized how much love and thought goes into each stitch and I felt connected to the women in my family again. What a gift this was to me! I noticed how soft and natural the fabrics were. How sweet and emphatic the little faces. Here was a doll my child could dress a million different way, hair style, accessorize but most importantly...cuddle, talk to and keep near as a friend and companion.

Babydoo Mary completed and ready for donation.
It is my guarantee that every Babydoo doll is a one of a kind. No face, hair, outfit is ever the same. Most importantly each stitch is thoughtfully done with love and hope that my efforts will bring joy, love, imagination and comfort to your little one. Each doll is an opportunity for me to bring joy to others and a chance to remember the women I loved. x - Jennie

Welcome to Babydoo Handmade Dolls!

Welcome to Babydoo Handmade Dolls!

I am a Third generation doll maker located in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. My Babydoo dolls are beautiful, soft, handcrafted, heirloom quality Waldorf dolls. Made with care and ready to play, cuddle, and get the imagination of your little one going.

A Waldorf doll (also called Steiner doll) is a form of doll used in Waldorf education. Made of wool and cotton, using techniques drawing on traditional European dollmaking, its appearance is intentionally simple in order to allow the child playing with it to improve or strengthen imagination and creativity. For instance, it has no facial expression. Its legs and arms are flexible, allowing natural postures.Traditional Waldorf dolls are made from cotton interlock knit fabric and wool stuffing. They are often entirely natural. Typically the trademark long hair of a Waldorf doll is made of mohair or boucle. Some doll makers use alternative hair material such as wool, rayon, and cotton. The facial features of a Waldorf doll vary with the maker. Most Waldorf dolls have small suggestions of noses, their eye and mouth colors are generally varied with each doll.
 - quote from Wikepedia.

Unlike other hard plastic dolls, Babydoo dolls are soft warm and durable. -Each doll can be made 18, 16,14, 12, or 10 inches in length.
-They are created from 100% cotton fabric that is hand dyed by me from fair, golden, to darker tones. (Cloth is dyed with teas, and coffees to keep it all natural.)
-The hair is created from high quality, natural, unique yarns, - mohair, organic cotton, wool and roving- in a multitude of colors and textures. Faces are lovingly embroidered with silk threading.  My dolls are not stuffed with wool like traditional Waldorf dolls but with a hypo-allergenic poly- fill stuffing. This is not because I do not like wool but I am allergic to it. However, this has helped Babydoo dolls in a very unique and significant way... Unlike many other Waldorf style dolls on the market Babydoo dolls are so affordable! Compared to dolls ranging on Etsy, Ebay, and independent sites starting from $90 - $250 dollars!

Because my dolls are made with 100% cotton and dyed by hand, by me, I am not paying the high prices and shipping for the expensive European fabrics used by other Waldorf doll makers. Also, by using the hypo allergenic stuffing instead of wool I keep costs down. I firmly believe that Waldorf dolls should be affordable and thereby accessible to all children despite their economic standing!9As they were originally intended) This is also why my dolls are often donated to local centers and charities for distribution. :-)

It is my guarantee that every Babydoo doll is a one of a kind. No face, hair, outfit is ever the same. Most importantly each stitch is thoughtfully done with love and hope that my efforts will bring joy, love, imagination and comfort to your little one. So much love and thought goes into each stitch!

Babydoo dolls are created with  soft and natural the fabrics. Each are sweet and emphatic. Here is a doll your child can dress a million different way, hair style, accessorize... but most importantly...cuddle, talk to, and keep near as a friend and companion.
As each doll is created I will post details and pictures along with pricing. under the web store section of this site. Dolls can also be created special order. A doll can be made with your choice of yarn, hair color, eye color, hair style, dress style, multiple outfits, stuffed with a pinch of lavender, or even a mini Babydoo to accompany larger doll, and much more.

Avah's montage

I adore Mother Teresa. A quiet but strong women who accomplished so much while working within one of the world largest and most dominate patriarchal based system,..Catholicism.
I too am Catholic, I questioned its teachings and beliefs more and more as my education grew. One day I went to my auntie and told her that many Catholic rules/beliefs no longest matched my own but it saddened me because my friends and community and some of my best childhood memories were as a Catholic. She told me that if you love something you stay and reform it from the inside...you do not leave and criticize it from outside.
Like my sweet auntie, Mother Teresa loved her faith, but she also did things that many religious Catholic women might have left to male clergy...even though no one could have done it like her x.
Below is a quote from her that I read at my Daughters dedication. -Jennie

"People are often unreasonable and self-centered. Forgive them anyway.
If you are kind, people may accuse you of ulterior motives. Be kind anyway.
If you are honest, people may cheat you. Be honest anyway.
If you find happiness, people may be jealous. Be happy anyway.
The good you do today may be forgotten tomorrow. Do good anyway.
Give the world the best you have and it may never be enough. Give your best anyway.
For you see, in the end, it is between you and God. It was never between you and them anyway."
